Again, photos will be added later.
Summary: We left Montecatini and rode our coach to spend the morning in Pisa. We got back on the road, had our last Italian meal of pasta and bread, and then crossed another border into France, heading towards Nice. We came into Monaco for dinner and viewing the posh hotels, homes (of royalty and stars), and the beauty of the mediterranean in the second smallest state in the world (after the Vatican... check and check!), at 1.95km2.
Awesome moment: gambling in the oldest casino in the world, in Monte Carlo, Monaco tonight after a lovely dinner.
We are obviously novice, inexperienced gamblers in Monaco. But it was fun just to try on the James Bondian lifestyle.
Oh, and also, we tested our strength at this cool piece of architecture (see photo below). It's now called the Leaning Tower of Pisa...
Blooper: drinking more than one glass of wine that was allotted at dinner, because we had the table to ourselves and guzzled the bottle. Or maybe bringing my camera into the casino. Whoops.
Cheapest pleasure: Susan won a tunnel-counting competition on our drive today (the prize being a mega chupa-chups sucker/lollipop!). She counted 167 of the 167.5 tunnels on the Italian side of the border! Lara's cheap pleasure was having a Magnum ice cream bar after lunch (€2).

| The Casino Monte Carlo is lit up behind us. We went in after having some drinks at another posh casino next door. |

| Just a touch of the finger could make this thing topple...?? Actually, the tower has some pretty interesting history! 200 years to build it, interrupted by wars and architectural failures. |

What's the caption for the picture of Susan holding what looks like a mariachi?
ReplyDeleteThe photos are kafaugust in these last few blog posts, if there have been any at all, because they've been uploaded from he iPad instead of a computer. Which is from an app and not the actual web page. So uploading is different and I can't put on captions and organize and rearrange the format and junk. So maybe later I'll go back through and edit.
DeleteIt was a huge "lollipop" filled with small suckers. I would suck on them throughout the trip. Fun to do the count. I almost fell asleep, though. I would consider whether I had counted a very LONG tunnel at the beginning or at the end. I was off by a half a tunnel! Did I close my eyes during that long one? It took about 2 hours of riding through tunnels until it was all over. Fun.
DeleteSusi would be able to count that many tunnels lol
ReplyDeleteHaha I know! I slept. And Journaled. And took photos. And listened to music. And wrote postcards. All during the time it took to count 167 bridges.
